Week in Review: TTMIK Office (March 16, 2012)

안녕하세요 여러분! Hello everyone, Hyunwoo here again. This is my 2nd post in this category, “Week in Review: TTMIK Office”, where I will be sharing with you what has happened for the past week or so at the TalkToMeInKorean Office here in Seoul, Korea.

I was expecting the weather to be much warmer this week but to my disappointment we have yet to experience the true Spring weather here in Seoul. We had some cold days earlier this week, and thanks to my lack of caution, I caught a very bad cold (my first cold and hopefully my last this winter), so I spent the majority of this week trying to feel better. But I’m very glad and thankful that I have super awesome and multi-talented coworkers that can cover for me when I’m away or not feeling well.

But I’m starting to feel much better now, so 걱정하지 마세요! And 여러분도 감기 걸리지 마세요!

Okay, so now more about TalkToMeInKorean. When I went to Manila last February, I was honored to meet so many listeners in the Philippines, and I was hoping to see them again, but I didn’t know I would be able to meet one of them again so soon! Francis, who was at the Manila meet-up too, had recently won a free trip to the Big Bang concert in Seoul and came to visit the TTMIK office as well while he was visiting Seoul. He came here with his sister Lia and brought lovely presents for the TTMIK staff. Thank you Francis! It was great to see you again over here! Hope you had a great time in Korea and hope to see you again when I go to Manila in May!

On the same day, we went to Hongdae to host the weekly LanguageCast meetup. It was very crowded and the atmosphere was great, as usual. (I think this is the night when I started losing my voice, though, haha.) A lot of new members. Lots of languages. LanguageCast rocks! (Want to know how to participate? Click here.)

This week, we also sent the prize (a Samsung digital camera) to the top scorer of February at HaruKorean.com, and the top student, 지원 (nice Korean name!) actually decided to give the prize to his Korean girlfriend, as a proof that he is studying Korean really hard. I think that was really thoughtful and also very sweet!!!

The next day was 14th of March. As you may or may not know, Valentine’s Day is not the only 14th day of a month that is celebrated. There are all sorts of 14th-day celebrations each month and the 14th of March is one of them and called the “White Day”. It’s like the male equivalent of Valentine’s Day. On that day, everyone in the office received a custom-made TalkToMeInKorean chocolate from Stephen Redeker. Thank you soooooo much 스티븐 정말 고마워요. It was both exciting and surreal to eat chocolate that had my face on the packaging.

And of course, MyKoreanStore saw many updates in the book section. In addition to the Sogang Korean books, we also added a Korean cartoon book as a recommended reading source.

As you know we are taking a short break after Level 7 and before we start Level 8, so that some of our listeners can catch up with us and also so that we can spend some time for more video production, but the HaruKorean lessons have all been published as scheduled and our Facebook page has been quite active this week. I’d say it was a pretty good week for us, and I’m looking forward to a more exciting, productive and creative week next week! : )

How has YOUR week been so far, everyone?

Thanks for reading!

I enjoyed this update, thank you! I will try to describe my week so far, too, in Korean! If you can make any sense of it at all, you have yourselves to thank; I am learning most of my Korean from TTMIK and am currently working on Level 2. Thank you thank you! All mistakes are, of course, my own.

  • Michael M

수고 하셨습니다! Take your time with starting level 8. I’m currently at level 5, lesson 20, so it’s going to take me a long time to catch up!

  • Courtney

I just got the bulk download of level 7. Could someone at TTMIK please add it to the curriculum list? I can’t wait for level 8! These lessons are really great!

  • 짱!

Wow! I am in the TTMIK website. I can’t believe it. Haha. This is my first time to see our faces in this entry.

I would like to express my thanks to you. Your site is so informative and good, the lessons are both entertaining and elaborate, and these blog posts really gives that feel that one has a connection to the teachers. You guys are great at teaching.

I have been interested in languages for a long time, so I’ve been at many different language learning sites. But no one even compares to yours. This is definitely the best.

I’ve just started going through the lessons at level 1, and hopefully soon I hope I can talk more freely to my friend in Korea. Her English isn’t that good, and for her comfort, I’m trying my best to learn Korean so that she can focus on her studying instead… I’ve learnt a lot already and she’s really impressed and thankful.
So… Thank you for giving us a chance to get to know each other better! : D

It still feels like a dream to have “discovered” this. I hope it goes well for you in the future and that many more will find joy in your lessons and what you do.

Thank you so so so much! ^^/

  • Hi there !

How do you choose each level’s lessons ? Is it based on what you feel is more difficult ? Is it on TOPIK/KLPT basis ? Is it based on some university’s KLI program ?

Thank you so much for your lessons, even though I am in Japan these days, I can keep learning korean thanks to you :)))

  • best keep it up

I just discovered TTMIK just recently and I’m really happy by your generosity teaching Korean language for free. I read this blog today and sadden by the fact that you’ve been here in Manila and I wasn’t able to meet you 🙁
I would surely meet you when I can already talk to you in Korean. I have to study hard huh 🙂
