As in our previous lessons, we will be going over how to make “reported speech” sentences. In this lesson, you can add a little more ‘oomph’ to your Korean reported speech by studying how to use -(ㄴ/는)다잖아요/-라잖아요. By learning to use this phrase, you’ll be combining the things you learned in Level 5 Lesson 27 with some of the things you learned in our 4 more recent lessons. We hope you enjoy this lesson, and thanks for studying with us! 감사합니다!

You can view a free PDF for this lesson here, or if you want to study with our TalkToMeInKorean textbooks, you can get them here.

    안녕하세요? 새해 복 많이 받으세요!

    명사 ~ (이)라잖아요
    형용사(descriptive verb) ~ 다잖아요
    동사(action verb) ~ (느)ㄴ다잖아요

    과거형(past tense) ~ 다잖아요
    미래형(future tense) ~ (으)ㄹ 거라잖아요

Are there any for question (의문문), imperative (명령문), or propositive (청유문) sentences?

  • 티티믹 안녕하세요!

I have to practice very much to understand, so I will do it now.

    감사합니다

  • 제가 그렇게 그랬더니 친구가 무슨소리냐고했거든요. ‘라잖아요’라는말 틀렸대요… ‘라고하잖아요’로 말하면 맞대요… 그래서 좀 confusing 해졌거든요. 그말씀이 맞은가요? 틀린가요? 그 친구가 대전에 사는친구라서 그런가요? 혹시 대전에서 그런말씀 안하실까요? 아이구 복잡해요 ㅜㅜ

      혼란스러워서 confusing

TTMIK please update what Jason put in this comment box.

The PDF has a mistake. You don’t just add 이 잖아요 to nouns. You can only do that if the former word ended in a consonant sound. The PDF made no reference to this and so people may end up adding 이 잖아요 to ALL nouns. Also, in future postings please put the past and future tenses IN because it’s confusing when we want to change tenses without knowing how to 20 lessons later or 10 lessons later. These are just my suggestions. Thank you so much for the wonderful lessons : ).

The PDF made no reference to this and so people may end up adding 이 잖아요 to ALL nouns. The other issue is that the PDF has NO sample sentences using nouns at all. Also, in future postings please put the past and future tenses IN because it’s confusing when we want to change tenses without knowing how to 20 lessons later or 10 lessons later. Shouldn’t -라잖아요 be -이라잖아요 for Nouns?

Nouns ending with consonants + -이라잖아요
Nouns ending with vowels + -라잖아요

Is that a typo or there is a reason behind it, please explain me! 감사합니다.
