YaY A new workbook! Awesome, thanks. I’ll check it out later as it’s past 5:30 am here and oh I don’t know, I should be going to bed, I think.

Just wanted to say thank you soooooo much, guys. It’s so nice learning with you!

guys, sorry for the late reply…오늘 병원에 왔어요.
      네, 잘 잤어요. 석진 씨는? 잘 잤어요? 새 레슨 읽고 싶어요! :)

경은 씨, yes, I answered all the questions and got a nice score :)

BTW, I’ll buy the lesson you guys recorded later when I’m more certain about standard pronunciation and intonation. I’m afraid I’d get confused if I buy it now. ^^”

Helo to Kyeongeun sansaengnim, Hyunwoo Sun sansaengnim and all of the TTMIK followers. TTMIK jaemi imnida, ryt??? I am allan from Davao City, Philippines. I guess nobody knows where on earth is my place but TTMIK has really reached as far as here. I salute my teachers Hyunwoo Sun and Kyeongeun Choi, they really have what it takes to be excellent teachers dealing with language enthusiasts around the globe. Teachers,, i just wanna have some suggestion. I admit that I am yet a beginner in learning Hangul (correct me if am wrong) and am having fun with your lessons. All are well-structured and comprehensive. But i think it would be helpful for us beginners, especially that we are not hearing Korean language everyday to have show interviews aside from the lessons, just like what you had with Koshiba, not for advanced level but for “beginner” level. A show interview where the lessons 1 to 20 of level 1 will be used, and so forth…

I hope that i did not sound so demanding for this suggestion because you guys have, in fact, done already a lot for us who want to learn Korean… Kamsahamnida… Hoping for a response from my teachers…who are also now my idols!!! Godspeed.

    • Serena says: March 15, 2010

      Hi Allan,

as a beginner myself, I dare you telling you what I do with the advanced interviews, which, as they are, are faaaaaar above my current level of knowledge.

First I listen to the interview, trying to understand what they say; hopefully, I pick up the gist of the interview and understand a few expressions. Then, I listen to it again while reading the pdf; this usually leads to understanding a few more expressions although I’m still pretty much in the dark (heh!). Then, I copy and paste the whole interview in a Word document or something and I analyze the interview thoroughly. I look up the words I don’t know and write them down; I do the same with grammar structures (websites like the Korean wiki project, wikibooks Korean and the Korean Grammar dictionary are useful for this kind of thing). The last bit is especially helpful to me: even if I haven’t learned a particular structure yet, I jot it down; if I think it’s something not too advanced I check my textbooks and study it in detail, otherwise I just put it aside for the future so when I eventually get around to studying it, I can verify if I got it right when I listened to the interview and I can listen to it again to check my newly acquired knowledge. Of course, some expressions are just too advanced or I can’t work them out by myself, but surprisingly they’re fewer than I imagined when I started analyzing pdfs this way, which I admit I’ve started doing only recently, but I’ll sure keep on doing.

Also? I don’t remember when I read this, but someone suggested adding a vocabulary with the interviews. At first, I thought that’d be cool, but I’ve totally changed my mind now. I memorize vocab better if I look up the words myself and try to see which particular meaning fits with the sentence I’m reading. I know, it’s a long tedious and sometimes headache-inducing work, but it is helpful if your aim is to learn the language. Of course, using the dictionary this extensively and over-analyzing the pdf might ruin the fun of just listening and understanding the interview, but…well, that’ll come to us when we know more? As I said, I’m a newbie myself, but what I just described is totally doable for a beginner if you can read hangul ;)

    • Megumitch says: March 16, 2010

I know where your place is. I’m from PI…I’m also a beginner student.I also don’t much chance to hear korean language so I Listen to the Mp3 files everyday. It is helpful because Korean words and expressions that the teachers use stick to my head cause I can hear them everyday. You can also write a diary in Korean and use Korean words and expressions you’ve learned. That way you can practice. Application is important. I wanted to write more tips but I must go to bed now. Enjoy studying!

    • Kyeong-eun Choi says: March 16, 2010

      Allan James :)
Thank you for giving us your suggesion. I think it’s a good idea. We are doing our best not only to make lessons but also various materials like videos and interviews. So that you can hear a variety of different koreans and how they speak and sound 감사합니다. ^^

      Serena :)
Thank you for your tips. When I study foreign languages I also try to do that. It’s not that easy and sometimes really boring. But I think it’s worth it. 감사합니다. ^^

      Megumitch :)
감사합니다. To write a diary in Korean is a good way to practice. :D

Have a great day! 즐거운 하루 되세요. ^^

    • Allan James says: March 20, 2010
