Help other learners study your language!

안녕하세요! Hello TTMIK friends and family! This is Hyunwoo from the TTMIK team. As you know, YOU ARE HERE Cafe, our joint coffee shop with EYK, has been up and running for a few months now, and we have come up with various ways to help you better learn the Korean language using the offline, physical location that we finally have. One of the activities we have been doing regularly is the self-study session. So far, unless there were special reasons not to, we have been hosting Korean self-study sessions at our cafe every Tuesday from 4PM to 6PM, every Thursday from 10AM to 12PM, and biweekly on Saturdays from 9AM to 12PM. (You can see the full schedule for upcoming sessions here: http://meetup.com/talktomeinkorean)

We love meeting with our listeners through the free self-study sessions, and we are going to continue hosting these as long as we can. But we also meet a lot of people (not just from Korea but coming from various parts of the world) at the cafe who would like to also learn languages other than Korean. So we are looking for volunteer self-study leaders who want to help other people study your native language.

The role of a self-study session leader is not very complicated. You just need to answer questions by the people who participate, or if they want to practice speaking with you in your native language, you can be their speaking practice partner. This will be a good opportunity for you to also make new friends, so if you are interested, here are some more details.

  • You can set the schedule the way it is most convenient for you, but we recommend that you set aside at least a couple of hours a week, preferably at the same time each week.
  • If you are interested, you can e-mail us at talktomeinkorean@gmail.com or message us on our Facebook page, so that we can decide on what day, for how many hours, for which language, and for how many weeks the sessions will take place.
  • This will be a volunteer activity, but to thank you for your time and effort, we will offer you a free beverage during each self-study session at the cafe.
  • You don’t have to have a curriculum or class material, since it is a self-study session, but if there are people who request further assistance from you, you can arrange that with them privately.

So that’s it! Once new self-study sessions are planned, we will announce the schedule on our meet-up page and also promote it to local Koreans who are studying that language.

Thank you for reading and thank you so much as always for studying the Korean language with us!

Hi! My name is Indah from Indonesia. I’d like to join this program because I love to meet other people from different countries and speak with their native language. So I want to join this program as a leader for Indonesian language. But the problem is: I didn’t live in Korea, and I want to ask you is this program only available for people who lives in Korea?

Thanks for your comment. I am sorry. Because the self study session is held in the cafe, it will be hard to join this program if you don’t live in Korea, now.
