Do you know what the word 방콕 or 방콕하다 means in Korean? Of course 방콕 is how you write the name of the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, in Hangeul. But it has more meaning than that in spoken Korean. In casual Korean, when you say that you do 방콕, it describes how you seldom leave your own room or house and never go anywhere. This comes from the words 방, 콕, and 박히다 combined together.
방 = room
콕 describes how something pokes or something is stuck
박히다 = to be stuck somewhere
방에 콕 박혀 있다 –> “방”에 “콕” —> 방콕
So this is how this word was made. Have you ever heard anyone say this? Or do you have any other questions that you’d like to ask Hyojin? Let us know in the comments!

고마워요! 자주 쓸 수 있는 표현 인것 같아요 ^_^ 저는 박사논문을 쓰느라고 방콕하거든요!
감사합니다 ^^ 박사 논문 화이팅!!
감사합니다 선생님! 내일 방에 콕 박혀 있어 좋겠다…근데 학교에 가야 돼요. ᅲᅲ ..Sorry if I said that wrong, or it sounds a bit awkward, I’m still a little new at learning Korean. ^_^

다리 뼈가 부러져서 방콕할수 밖에 없었는데 우리 할머니와 많이 친해졌네요. 우리 할머니는 재미있는 얘기가 많다는 게 밝혀졌어요.
What does 사랑받는거보다 더 행복한게 있을까싶다 Mean?
행복한게 or 행복하게? :S
If 행복하게, then it means I guess.. I’m thinking why not to be happy rather being loved.
사랑을 받는 것보다 더 행복하게 있다 – to be happy more than being loved.
ㄹ까 싶다 is wondering to do something or not
If that’s 행복한 게 then……
I wonder why not to have happiness rather being loved. Maybe?
But well I’m not 100% sure if it’s the accurate meanings.
So I can say 방콕하는 왕따 ?
이 표현이 정말 재미있네요. 감사합니다~^^
