I like the idea of the folklore tale origin…
was jealous so tried to do exactly the same and ended up with snakes and toads as a reward. Though I don`t think it was very pleasant for any of them ^_^
When I was a child I read a similar story about 2 step sisters. One of them made some good deeds so she was rewarded and when she talked lots of pearls and other gems were falling out of her mouth. The other one, evil sister

Can Taebak mean ” gaining a lot of popularity ” ?

Big Bang’s Daesung sings a trot song “대박이야” and he uses this word alot. Have you guys heard this song???
He did a big hit with that song. Most of Korean will know that song.

I can think of something relating to a ship that is used in English, it’s a old saying: “your ship has come in” meaning that you have finally received some luck usually in a large fortunate way. It usually refers to a situation where someone has been trying for a time to get the result they finally want, usually involving some type of money e.g. a rich attractive member of the opposite sex want to marry you. I think you may need to research it more if you don’t understand my explanation.

글자상으로, 이것은 큰 박을 의미한다. 한국에서, 특히 20세기 전의 가난한 시대에는 작은 박을 말리거나 삶아서 바가지로 만들었다. 하지만 큰 박으로는 성찬을 즐길 수 있었고, 이 를 반영하여 현재는 풍부, 행운, 그리고 좋은 일을 뜻하게 되었다.
Literally, it’s a big gourd. In Korea, especially during periods of poverty before the 20th Century, small gourds were dried and boiled to make dippers. Large gourds, however, could be feasted on so they came to represent periods of abundance or by reference, lucky or great things.

뿅(bbyong) is like a sound affect, to disappear.
오모(omo) means “oh my”

I was so happy when I saw this because the other day while watching a Korean drama I just kept on hearing this word. But when I looked it up in my Korean to English dictionary it wasnt there! This really helped me and made understanding the drama a lot easier.
