Hyunwoo Sun( 선현우 )

Hi, everyone. My name is Hyunwoo Sun (선현우). I was born and raised here in Korea and I am still living in Korea, but I LOVE learning foreign languages so I have learned (and am still learning) English, Japanese, French, Chinese and Spanish, and I’m planning to learn more. With the help of some really awesome people, I made this place with the goal of making it easier for learners of the Korean language to continue learning without giving up. I hope you will enjoy learning with us, and I’d love to hear from you about how we can make this site and our lessons better! Thank you!

If you are interested in reading about some other things that I am up to, please visit http://HyunwooSun.com.

    Hi Hyunwoo Sun!
I want to learn Korean since june 2009. I was searching some helful videos, when I found ever4one on Youtube. I watched some, and I really liked!
Yesterdy, I was searching a video for saying “Happy New Year” in Korean. Now, I’m in your new website. =
    I really like it. =D
I just want to thank you so much for your work (the other teachers also).
Personally, I’m learning 3 languages. French is my native language. I’m learning German and English at school, and Korean on the internet.
It’s shame that there is hardly anything to help French speakers for larning Korean!
    Good job! =)
    감사합니다!

I just wanted to say that your speaking in korean is very very useful to me! I mean hearing makes me want to answer in korean^^. The fact that your lessons and your mp3 files are useful is the fact that now I’m watching korean dramas without subtitles eventhough I don’t understand everything I try to catch the things I learn during lessons and it works! After I rewatched them with subtitles to get vocabulary and see if I were right. So I just wanted to thank you.
By the way, it seems we can’t download anymore mp3 files? Please let me know!

    Thank you very much!

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: March 6, 2010

      Emmanuelle :)

Thank you so much!! You can download all the mp3 files that are on the site forever :)

  15. Derek says: February 25, 2010

TTMIK is beyond great. I’d have to create a new word to express how much I appreciate what you and the other instructors are doing. I’m looking forward to the upcoming lessons. Keep them coming!

Six languages? Hyunwoo, you can’t be serious?

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: March 6, 2010

Thank you so much for the kind words! And yeah… :) I love learning languages as much as I love helping people learn Korean :)

    안녕하세요 현우오빠~~

Como a ti, a mi me encanta aprender las lenguas. En la universidad, estudié lingüistica hispanica y literatura americana (junto con enseñar inglés como lengua extranjera) y ahora vivo en Corea donde enseño ingles y 한국어 공부해요.

Si quieres practicar tu español aquí en Corea contáctame!

Also, 지금 저는 당신이랑 한국어 연습 할 수 있어요~~ I hope that makes sense~*^___^*

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: March 6, 2010

      Allison :)

      안녕! 반가워!

A mi me gusta tu blog! Y por supuesto! Me gustaria poder practicar mi espanol contigo mientras que estas en Corea. Donde en Corea vives ahorita? :)

Y por la ultima frase que has escrito, seria mas natural si escribes “이제 오빠랑 한국어 연습할 수 있어요”

      - Hyunwoo

    안녕하세요!
free forever? …. 고맙습니다. 나 1/4한국 입니다. 항상 공부했습니다.
i really apreciate all that your trying to accomplish. the fact that your lessons are free
shows you have real good heart :) 지금 사백 단어를 알아요. but i know that this is not
enough and that i will probally always be a student. 저 할머니가 한국어입니다. and i have one
very good friend in japan whom is korean. I want to know more and more about my korean side all
the time. i dont know if you have MP3 on cultural points , i know a few…. like king 세종, 고사리, 옹기,한지, 판소리…also i love differnet 사투리. i know these would not be main lessons but….. just a thought.
keep up all the love and good work, 조나단,(jonathan)

  19. Derek says: March 10, 2010

Aagh! Its March and its snowing?!

    Hyunwoo,

I have a question. How do I say “Stop, talk to me in Korean”? Kuman, Hangookeo something something… I will say something to my Korean friends in Korean and they always respond in English. My listening skills are not the best. I always have to say “Chun chun hi morayo” I think that means speak slowly. But yeah, even though they would have to say their sentence twice. Once in Korean and again in English, I want to tell my friends to talk to me in Korean.

    Derek

    • Victoria says: May 2, 2010

Because of my lack in ability to write correctly in Hangul, I’ll just romanize for your sake.

If they are close friends : Kumanhae! Hangugeo Malhae!. :]
If you want to use formal language: Kumanhaeyo! Hangugeo Malhaeyo :]

and Chon Chonhi Malhaeyo does mean speak slowly :]

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: April 13, 2010

안녕하세요 Yury 씨 반가워요. 답장이 많이 늦었죠? 공부를 정말 열심히 하고 계시네요. 앞으로도 꾸준히 열심히 공부하시길 바래요. 저는 가능하기만 하다면 하루 종일 외국어 공부만 하고 싶지만, 사실은 해야 할 일들이 굉장히 많아서 그게 쉽지는 않아요. ^^

  26. 사과 says: March 21, 2010

선생님! 하하.. I have a question! Does 재미있어요 means it’s funny and 재미없어요 means it’s not funny?
    오빠 재미있어요!

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: April 13, 2010

      That’s correct!!!!

      저 재미있어요? 고마워요!! :)

  27. Imen says: March 26, 2010

    Hi
i really enjoy learning korean with you, the lessons are fun to listen and easy to learn,
i learned a lot thanks to your website. Thanks for all your help. Thank you for all your hard work. it is awesome.

    i have a question,
i was learn that “the pattern for using 아니에요 is – Topic (은/는), Subject (이/가), Verb. There are two particles (Topic Marker and Subject Marker) in a single sentence.
then what’s the right form for “I am not a student” “저는 학생이 아니에요” or “저 학생 아니에요”
or the two sentences are correct
    i’m confused

    thank you

    • Hyunwoo Sun says: April 13, 2010

Both 저는 학생이 아니에요 and 저 학생 아니에요 are correct.

저는 학생이 아니에요 is the basic form,
and as is often the case in Korean,
the particles can be dropped when the meaning is very clear,
so it can become 저 학생 아니에요 :)

  31. hanna says: April 14, 2010

hyunwoo, thanks so much for putting up this site. I’m such an avid fan of korean dramas but I watch them only with english subtitles! I want to learn the language so I can watch the shows without them! However, I’m still a beginner and only at your lesson 9 . And it seems I’ll be stuck there for quite sometime because I’m already confused! LOL! I also get intimidated when I see korean writing because I know I will fail at that. :-( I will stick to conversational korean for now. LOL!
Anyway, keep up the good work!
